Why Is a Qudsi Hadith Not Considered a Quranic Verse?

Although Qudsi hadiths have a divine origin, they are not considered Quranic verses. It’s important to understand their fundamental differences in wording and worship context.

Qudsi hadiths contain meanings revealed by God but are not part of the Qur’an because their wording comes from the Prophet Muhammad himself. Every verse of the Qur’an was revealed verbatim through the Angel Gabriel, with both its wording and meaning directly from God, and is meant to be recited as an act of worship. In contrast, in a Qudsi hadith the divine message is conveyed in the Prophet’s own words. Therefore, it lacks the miraculous literary form and the ritual recitation status of the Qur’an. The Qur’an is preserved in a fixed order within the mushaf and its every letter is considered an act of worship, whereas Qudsi hadiths are recorded in hadith collections and are not recited in prayer. Nevertheless, they remain spiritually significant, expressing profound truths about God’s mercy, love, and guidance.
